Sonoko seems excited about his impending heist, but Ran is much more pragmatic. That's our first mention of KID: as a criminal ladykiller. She tells Ran about Phantom Thief (or Kaitou) 1412, an international criminal who is very popular with the ladies. This case begins with Ran's friend Sonoko giving us the exposition. Most episodes of Detective Conan focus on Conan trying to get adults to take him seriously, and, failing that, manipulating them into solving crimes. In the grand old tradition of anime, instead of dying or being grievously injured by the poison, something completely bizarre happened instead: he regressed ten years in age. He witnessed a gun smuggling deal and was poisoned to keep him quiet. He's a locally famous amateur detective, but he's in hiding now after two mysterious men tried to kill him. Shinichi is the protagonist of Detective Conan. The little kid there is called Conan Edogawa, but he's really a teenager named Shinichi Kudo. This is a picture of Conan lying to his best friend. She alternatively calls Shinichi “Ran’s husband” and encourages her to date other men, presumably depending on how vindictive she’s feeling that day. She has had it up to here with Shinichi and Ran’s “will they or won’t they?” shenanigans. Sonoko Suzuki: Ran’s friend and the young heiress to the Suzuki Corporation. If he ever solves a crime, it’s probably because Conan has manipulated him into finding the correct answer. Ran’s mother is a successful attorney who does not live with them anymore, probably because Kogoro is a complete moron and frankly an alcoholic. I’m pretty sure we find out why in the movies. He used to be a police officer, but he left the force for some reason or another. Kogoro Mori: Ran’s father is a private detective. She is a national karate champion and could totally kick your ass when she isn’t wondering where the hell her best friend has run off to. She’s currently Conan’s guardian, which makes things really awkward for him. Ran Mori: Shinichi Kudo’s best friend and prospective love interest. Currently he’s living with his friend Ran Mori and her father Kogoro Mori, a private detective. Finding the fountain of youth has not dulled Conan’s sense of justice or flagrant disregard for his personal safety, though, and he continues to stick his nose where it is unwanted. He’s hiding out in the body of a gradeschooler in the hopes that the criminals who poisoned him will not try again if they don’t realize their attempted murder failed. His real name is Shinichi Kudo, and he’s actually 17 years old.
